Wind River, a company known for its expertise in embedded solutions, has introduced an app store for its VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS). Wind River Marketplace will help customers find and evaluate best-of-breed add-on solutions from the Wind River partner ecosystem in order to enhance their VxWorks deployment.
Tested and validated by Wind River for seamless interoperability with VxWorks, the solutions found in Wind River Marketplace enrich the VxWorks operating environment with categories of packages ranging from safety, security, and storage to connectivity, graphics, and development tools.
“The launch of the Wind River Marketplace is a significant achievement in the embedded computing market segment. This event is particularly timely with the explosion of touch screen user interface applications. We look forward to developers using this app store to see how easy it is to utilize our tools to produce high-fidelity safety critical 3D user interface graphics for the automotive, aerospace, medical, and industrial controls industries,” said Joe Swinski, CEO and co-founder, DiSTI.
Customer benefits include simplified “try-before-buy” options, a modern app store experience, and easy installation and evaluation of complementary software. Via Marketplace, Wind River also houses an extensive range of board support packages (BSPs) in the embedded software industry to aid with board bring-up and design.
With the synergy and validation already achieved for Wind River Marketplace products, customers get almost immediate access to best-in-class embedded technologies to easily enhance the operating environment and accelerate market deployment,” said Dinyar Dastoor, vice president and general manager of operating system platforms at Wind River. “Marketplace creates a robust ecosystem offering for our customers, and provides our partners with a unique opportunity to showcase their products and distribute evaluation versions to our vast customer base.”
