Powered by state-of-the-art technology including Unisys Stealth micro-segmentation security software, the Active Insights platform monitors devices from a single point of contact, enabling healthcare and life sciences companies to easily track medical device performance and maintenance, report device problems, locate and manage assets and ensure regulatory compliance.

“Active Insights represents the latest software-led solution from Unisys combining both our extensive healthcare industry expertise and our leading-edge security technology,” said Eric Hutto, senior vice president and president, Enterprise Solutions, Unisys. “Active Insights helps healthcare organizations address common device management challenges such as misplaced or out-of-service devices, which not only represents lost revenue but also impacts the ability of providers to deliver timely, quality care.”

Addressing Device Management Challenges

There are several critical challenges in medical device management that providers face, including adequate device performance monitoring, turning data into coordinated patient care, and managing assets strewn across multiple geographies, languages, and regulations. In addition, healthcare facilities must constantly deal with regulatory compliance in the face of increasingly complex regulations, and amidst an increasingly complex network.

Active Insights addresses these challenges by providing healthcare organizations with capabilities including:

· A single, integrated help desk for both IT and medical device support, expediting engineer notification, service dispatch, and part replacement;

· The incorporation of Unisys integrated analytics capabilities to facilitate adaptive performance optimization and head off unexpected downtime;

· The use of Unisys’ integrated, traceable workflow, which provides technicians and service personnel with enhanced transparency to identify where device data came from, was sent, and what action was taken as a result.

“I am excited for the launch of Unisys’ Active Insights platform,” said Jon Lightman, Life Sciences Practice Lead at ISG. “Unisys is a strong technology and services company with a long heritage and renewed focus on industry-specific solutions. This offering addresses a growing challenge for healthcare and life sciences organizations by providing streamlined device management and improved compliance in an area that will inevitably have continued regulatory scrutiny.”

“Active Insights represents the inception of our new, rapid development approach, creating solutions that enable clients to actively look inside and gain a deeper understanding of their internal business processes,” said Dr. Jeff Livingstone, vice president and global head of Unisys’ Life Sciences & Healthcare vertical. “The need is particularly acute with industrial systems and processes that either exhibit large amounts of latency or involve highly dispersed objects. These areas are attractive to cybercriminals, and unfortunately include healthcare information systems and medical devices. Considering the overwhelming leverage providers are under to protect human lives during cyberattacks, as well as the potential widespread violation of patients’ trust and loss of institutional reputation, it is imperative that providers and medical device manufacturers find ways to better illuminate data and device management, and that they do so in ways that afford maximum security.”
