Spirent Communications announced that its vehicle-to-everything (V2X) solution has successfully completed the qualification process as OmniAir Qualified Test Equipment for WAVE-DSRC compliance certification. This certification gives connected car makers confidence that their vehicular communication devices and associated software will pass global industry requirements for interoperability and compliance with current standards and regulations.
Automotive OEM manufacturers, their suppliers and governments are actively investing in V2X communications. With the first US pilot deployments ongoing in several states, in the near future V2X will be widely deployed and used to notify drivers about road work, lane closures, traffic signal timing and even potential collision hazards, in order to optimize the safe flow of traffic and ultimately enable fully autonomous vehicles to operate in a safe and cooperative manner.
The OmniAir Consortium, an industry association promoting interoperability and certification for intelligent transportation systems, tolling and connected vehicles that use dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) and radio frequency (RF) technologies, recently launched its global V2X device certification program, an independent, third-party testing and certification program for V2X-DSRC connected vehicle products.
OmniAir has fully certified Spirent's TTsuite-WAVE-DSRC test equipment to validate the conformance of an implementation or a system based on Certification Operating Council (COC) test specifications, as recommended by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). All of Spirent’s V2X conformance test suites enable full test automation and provide global V2X standards coverage, including both the European ITS-G5 and the USDOT /COC WAVE-DSRC standards, as per IEEE1609.x and SAE J2945/1.
“Our V2X device certification program is designed to advance safer transportation systems and connected car communications by improving the mobility, efficiency and interoperability of ground transportation networks,” said OmniAir Executive Director Jason Conley. “OmniAir has selected Spirent’s TTsuite-WAVE-DSRC for V2X conformance testing, a suite that elevates OmniAir’s portfolio of testing equipment and commitment to independent third-party testing.”
"Spirent is honored to be one of the first qualified test solutions in OmniAir’s new V2X device certification program,” said Abhitesh Kastuar, Spirent's General Manager for Automotive. “Now companies can test their products with our equipment, and be fully prepared to meet requirements regarding functionality, interoperability and performance as outlined by the OmniAir Consortium and in forthcoming regulations by the U.S. department of transportation. We are fully committed to supporting future protocols and other standard specifications for this technology, as industry needs evolve."
