Sabre brings Destination Hack to Asia Pacific for the first time

Sabre Corporation has opened entries to its inaugural Asia Pacific hackathon, which will take place in Singapore from 14 to 16 October 2016 at The Hub.

Destination Hack will bring together global developers, entrepreneurs and members of the Asia Pacific startup and incubator community to code against-the-clock for a chance to win the Grand Prize of $10,000 for ‘Best New Technology Application’. Applications will be judged on their potential to ‘Reinvent Travel’, the theme of the hack.

Sabre’s hackathon is being held in partnership with WIT and in conjunction with the WIT Conference taking place Oct 17-19, where the winner will have the chance to present their Application.

“We are pleased that Sabre is bringing its annual Destination Hack to Singapore and holding it in conjunction with our main conference. Singapore is fast becoming a hub for innovation and startups, and WIT is a timely platform for developers to come create and then network with leaders and influencers in the travel and technology sector,” said Yeoh Siew Hoon, founder, WIT.

“This year’s WIT Conference theme is “Reimagine” so it will be interesting to see how the participating developers reimagine the world of travel technology.”

Developers will have access to Sabre’s API portfolio and software development kits via Sabre Dev Studio, Sabre’s open developer platform. Using these tools in conjunction with third party technologies they will conceptualise and code new Applications designed to enhance anything to do with travel – from shopping and selling to the travel experience.

“By bringing Sabre Dev Studio’s annual hackathon to Asia Pacific for the first time we hope to tap into, and support, the vast potential for technology innovation and entrepreneurship that we’re seeing from within this region. We also want to support Singapore’s tech scene as the country continues to grow as a hub for Asia’s thriving developer community,” commented Anupam Bokil, Vice President of Technology for Sabre Travel Network Asia Pacific.

“By constantly opening new channels for innovation, like this one, we can keep pushing the boundaries further on the way technology is adopted to support, drive and shape global travel.”

In addition to the grand prize competition, developers – who can compete individually or in teams – will be entered into a series of sponsored challenges including ‘Best Use of Virtual Reality’ and other categories like chatbot and augmented reality usage.
