India is about to disrupt the Smartphone market dynamics with a Rs 251 Smartphone.Ringing Bells, a Noida based mobile handset maker will be launching what one can call as the world’s cheapest Smartphone - ‘Freedom 251’ costing Rs 251 or just about $4. Going by reports the phone will be launched by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today.
The company stated that its vision is to “Empower citizens, even in the remotest rural and semi-urban centers of India, with the latest in digital technology at incredible affordable prices and cascade knowledge, news and current issues so that all experience the confidence of inclusive growth and equal opportunity - In short, innovative solutions for a Brighter tomorrow.” And its mission is , “ To provide futuristic technology products of the highest quality and best service at the lowest cost of ownership.”
Freedom 251 looks like a manifestation of its vision and mission.
Impressive indeed. Coming to the phone, the company’s site says that it will accept booking for the phone starting 6AM tomorrow.
This is clearly a global disruption and while we will come to know the look and feel of the phone later during the day, nevertheless it’s a daring launch and hope the company which is just about a year old lives up to the pre-launch hype and does not fizzle out like the ambitious Aakash tablet or the low cost PC rage a decade ago.
