Review: Reach Mobile's Cogent is a decent entry-level smartphone

Buying a budgeted smartphone is not a tough task these days as there are a number of smartphone manufacturers with plenty of options.  Reach Mobile recently launched its entry-level smartphone with an attractive price-point of Rs 2,999. The company launched a device called Cogent that boasts of a number of features.

Reach Mobile competes against the likes of Micromax, Karbonn, etc, in a highly price-driven Indian market.  The phone comes loaded with 1GB + 8GB RAM space and claims to enable fast browsing at 3G speeds. The device comes with Android Lollipop 5.1 and also features a 3.2-megapixel rear-facing camera as well as a 1.3MP front snapper. The handset packs a 2,000mAh battery, which claims to deliver up to seven hours of talk time and up to 200 hours standby. It is equipped to fulfill users’ need for entertainment with an in-built FM Radio and Playstore. in our usage the phone performed well on all parameters. Although the camera quality is not good, it is hard to expect anything beyond at this price-point.

The smartphone features a 4-inch WVGA (480x800 pixels) resolution display and also supports dual-SIM dual standby functionality. Keeping today's generation in mind, the phone is available in different shades: Golden, red, black and white. In short, Cogent has everything in it that a user wants and it is a good entry-level phone. On the connectivity front, the options include are 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM radio, and Micro-USB connectivity. It weighs in at 105.2 grams.

Dataquest would give it 3 stars for its performance. While the phone competes in this range, the company should focus on taking an edge over competitors by adding more features. All in all, the smartphone is a decent device and is worth for the money.
