PM Modi Hails IT Industry at the NASSCOM Technology and Leadership Forum

PM Modi addressed the 29th year of NASSCOM Technology and Leadership Forum (NTLF), a platform that has been bringing together the 190-billion-dollar IT industry eco-system over the years. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the IT industry for the resilience it displayed during the COVID-19 pandemic. “When the chips were down, your code kept things running,” said PM Modi while also taking note of the 2 percent growth in the sector and addition of 4 billion dollars in revenue amidst the apprehensions of a global slowdown due to the pandemic.

“When the whole world was restricted to the four walls of their homes, our IT sector ran their projects with the same commitment and dedication,” he added. PM Modi also emphasized the need for young entrepreneurs to have the freedom to leverage the new opportunities. “I urge start-ups and innovators to think, how we can create world-class products that will set the global benchmark on excellence. There can be no compromise on these goals,” he said while reiterating that the government had full faith in the start-up and innovators.

PM Modi stressed the need for use of technology in governance. He gave examples of geotagging of infrastructure products, houses of poor and such projects so that they can be completed on time. He talked of the use of drones in mapping village households and reduction in the human interface to improve transparency, especially in tax-related matters. The Prime Minister called upon the start-up founders not to restrict themselves to just valuations and exit strategies.  “Think how you can create institutions that will outlast this century. Think how you can create world-class products that will set the global benchmark on excellence”, he commented.

NASSCOM Technology and Leadership Forum 2021, with the theme of ‘Shaping the future towards a better normal’, will be conducted from 17 to 19 February 2021. The event aims at achieving three key objectives namely marking as a celebration of technology which has served as a backbone to boost businesses during the crisis, draw a roadmap for the way ahead towards building a better future and bringing out the importance of trust and responsible tech in this hyper virtual world.
