India is experiencing a surge in AI adoption, particularly GenAI, and is set to be one of the fastest expanding markets in the APAC region, with a projected spending of $26 billion by 2027. As more than 80% of organizations in India gear up to invest in GenAI over the next two years, concerns regarding data privacy and financial security are on the rise. This heightened awareness is driving a pressing need for robust security and compliance measures.

According to Splunk’s State of Security 2024 Report, a significant 66% of Indian enterprises rate their security programs as "extremely advanced", surpassing the global average of 47%. This statistic underscores Indian organisations’ proactive stance in fortifying their cybersecurity framework amidst the evolving landscape of AI adoption.

It comes as no surprise that the tightening compliance landscape, with stricter regulations and potential personal liability for security leaders, is putting immense pressure on security teams. The State of Security 2024 Report also reveals that 76% of security executives feel that the prospect of personal liabilities is making the field less appealing, with 70% thinking about leaving their roles due to job-related stress.

These findings highlight the need for an approach that balances robust security with compliance goals that empower cybersecurity professionals to thrive.

Given India's position as a leading IT services provider globally, the nation’s tech talents must stay abreast of AI advancements that enable them to create and innovate, while staying secure and compliant with increasingly stringent regulations. The impact of compliance mandates is evident with 81% of Indian respondents (compared to 62% globally) reporting feeling the weight of changing breach disclosure requirements.

Embrace collaboration to address compliance woes

That said, organizations in India are leading the charge in fostering a culture of digital resilience through collaboration. Notably, 54% of respondents from India (compared to 42% globally) believe that compliance is a collective responsibility within the security team. This collaborative approach extends beyond security, with high rates of collaboration between software engineering, engineering operations, and IT. By integrating compliance throughout the development and service delivery lifecycle, Indian organizations are increasing cross-department collaboration with IT operations, breaking down silos to build stronger enterprise resilience.

This is particularly evident in the financial services sector, where optimism about keeping pace with cybersecurity demands is higher (50% vs. 41% across industries). The increased collaboration between IT and engineering teams is likely to be a significant factor contributing to this sentiment.

One approach that teams are taking to break down silos and foster collaboration is through the deployment of a unified platform, which acts as a central nervous system that offers full-stack visibility across all teams. As data from various teams feeds into a centralized platform, with powerful real-time analytics, teams are not only able to move with agility to fend off threat actors but also diminish downtime, fix issues faster, and stay compliant.

In the face of a changing digital landscape supercharged by the rapid evolution of AI, organizations in India are emerging as leaders in securing the digital frontier by implementing cybersecurity best practices, maintaining a shared responsibility in compliance, and nurturing a collaborative culture that prioritizes digital resilience- all without compromising on innovation.
