The/Nudge Foundation, a not-for-profit focusing on sustainable poverty alleviation is organizing FreedomHack’15 - India’s first Hackathon for a social cause, with InMobi, the world’s most powerful advertising platform, as the primary sponsor and partner. This is the first time the best engineering minds of the country will come together to solve for the larger social challenges in society. FreedomHack’15 will take place on August 15, 2015 at the InMobi office in Bangalore.
While the concept remains similar to most hackathons, FreedomHack’15 will bring together programmers and software engineers to create practical solutions towards the challenges being faced by nonprofit organizations across India. Based on inputs from NGOs like Rang De, Swasti, Head Held High, Morph.org and Swasth, the key themes for FreedomHack’15 include healthcare, life-skills, livelihoods, education and crowd-funded microfinance.
Participants in FreedomHack’15 can expect to solve for problems like creating a platform for crowd-funded microfinance that can facilitate underprivileged young adults to undergo a program aimed at poverty alleviation.
“FreedomHack’15 presents a unique opportunity to give back to the society. InMobi is thrilled to be sponsor such and this initiative where the best technical minds in India will be able to directly impact millions of lives. This initiative sets a benchmark for the use of technology for social causes,” said Mohit Saxena, CTO, InMobi.
The Hackathon is expected to attract the top technical talent from organizations like Flipkart, Amazon, Google, LinkedIn among others.
“FreedomHack’15 provides an interesting opportunity to use technology for impacting society at scale. This is a great platform for engineers to give back to society,” said Peeyush Ranjan, CTO & Head of Engineering, Flipkart.
“We are all aware of how technology is solving some real-world problems. FreedomHack’15 is an extension of this belief. It is so inspiring to see techies volunteering their time and engineering talent to make an impact on society’s most critical needs like sustained poverty alleviation,” said Atul Satija, Founder and CEO, The/Nudge Foundation.
