Tata Technologies and BMW Group launch Joint Venture in India

Tata Technologies and the BMW Group have officially launched their joint venture, BMW TechWorks India, aimed at advancing automotive software development and business IT solutions. The venture, announced on October 8, 2024, will focus on creating software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and digital transformation strategies, leveraging India’s top engineering talent across Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

Starting with 100 employees, the joint venture is projected to rapidly grow its workforce to a four-digit figure by 2025. BMW TechWorks India will play a crucial role in the development of next-generation technologies, including automated driving systems, digital infotainment, and AI applications, to drive the digital transformation of BMW’s global production network. The venture will not only focus on automotive software but will also enhance the company’s business IT processes to improve customer experiences and operational efficiency worldwide.

Both Tata Technologies and the BMW Group hold equal shares in the joint venture, underscoring their mutual commitment to innovation in the automotive sector. Tata Technologies, known for its expertise across the product value chain, will bring its engineering prowess to develop solutions that cater to BMW’s evolving needs for software-driven mobility.

Commenting on the partnership, Warren Harris, CEO of Tata Technologies, highlighted the role this collaboration will play in reshaping the future of mobility through software innovations. He emphasized that the venture would not only attract India’s top engineering talent but also help redefine global standards in automotive software.

BMW executives, including Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Electronics and Software, and Alexander Buresch, Senior Vice President of IT, expressed enthusiasm about leveraging India’s tech talent to co-create innovative solutions for SDVs and enhance BMW’s global digital strategy. The joint venture will support the development of AI platforms, further increasing efficiency across BMW’s core business operations.
