Remember Microsoft Bing Chat, the company's proprietary GPT-powered AI chatbot? It was relaunched as Microsoft Copilot a while back, and the technology giant's artificial intelligence assistant has recently upped its free tier. The OpenAI model GPT-4 Turbo, which was previously only available to Pro customers, is now free for all Copilot users. To use OpenAI's most powerful language model, users must choose either the creative or precise Copilot discussion style.

Copilot Pro customers can still switch back to prior models by using the toggle

Mikhail Parakhin, CEO of Microsoft Advertising and Web Services, announced the change in a post on X, writing, "After much work, GPT4-Turbo has replaced GPT-4 in the Copilot free tier." Pro users can still select the older model if they wish (there is a toggle).

"GPT-4 Turbo now powers the Copilot Creative mode experience for free users. Users of Copilot Pro can still turn on or off GPT-4 Turbo in Creative mode, according to a Microsoft spokesman, as reported by CNET.

GPT-4 Turbo has been trained using data till April 2023

GPT-4 Turbo has been trained using data till April 2023 and can handle text-to-speech instructions. Its context window may hold 128,000 tokens, the most available in a GPT version. The more tokens a model accepts, the more text a user may enter into it to add context and improve the results.

Last year, Microsoft created Copilot to incorporate AI into its platforms; the AI assistant is now available online and integrated into Bing, Windows 11, the Edge browser, and Microsoft 365. Copilot Pro costs $20 per month per user, providing additional AI-powered functionality in Office apps, early access to new OpenAI models, and better image-creation tools. According to Microsoft, Copilot Pro would help users with writing, scripting, research, and even learning.

Is GPT-4.5 Turbo on the Cards?

OpenAI is currently working on a new model called the GPT-4.5 turbo. Although the technological behemoth has been quiet on future GPT iterations, Reddit users discovered earlier this week that OpenAI mistakenly published a blog post claiming GPT-4.5 Turbo outperformed GPT-4 Turbo in speed, accuracy, and scalability, according to CNET.

The media outlet also stated that, while the blog piece was quickly withdrawn from the OpenAI website, an enhanced GPT model will appear shortly. It also implies that if Microsoft plans to differentiate its Copilot versions by giving the superior model in the premium tier, the corporation may consider introducing GPT-4.5 Turbo to Copilot Pro when the new model is introduced.
