Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is making another bold move in the hybrid cloud space with the acquisition of Morpheus Data, an innovator in hybrid cloud management and platform operations. This acquisition is set to enhance HPE’s GreenLake platform, positioning it as the definitive solution for enterprises navigating the complexities of hybrid IT environments.

The addition of Morpheus Data to the HPE portfolio is a strategic leap, aimed at providing a seamless, integrated experience for managing applications across multi-vendor and multi-cloud environments. This follows HPE’s successful acquisition of OpsRamp in 2023, and together, these platforms will make HPE the first vendor to offer a full suite of enterprise-grade capabilities across the entire hybrid cloud stack.

Fidelma Russo, HPE’s Executive Vice President and General Manager for Hybrid Cloud, emphasized the significance of this acquisition, stating, “With the acquisition of Morpheus Data, we will take the next major leap to make HPE GreenLake cloud the de facto platform for innovating across hybrid IT.” The integration of Morpheus Data will enable HPE GreenLake customers to manage nearly any workload across both traditional and modern cloud environments, enhancing the platform’s versatility and future-proofing it for AI-driven workloads.

One of the standout features of this acquisition is the enhanced FinOps capabilities it brings to the table. By integrating Morpheus Data’s cloud cost optimization tools with HPE’s existing multi-cloud data, enterprises will gain deeper insights into their cloud spending. This will enable them to enforce usage controls and optimize workloads, ultimately driving down costs.

Brian Wheeler, Co-founder and CEO of Morpheus Data, highlighted the successful collaboration between HPE and Morpheus leading up to this acquisition, noting that this partnership will allow more customers to transform their multicloud, multi-vendor IT environments and thrive in an increasingly complex IT landscape.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of HPE’s 2024 fiscal year, subject to customary conditions. Once complete, Morpheus Data’s technology will be fully integrated into the HPE GreenLake platform, while also continuing to be available as standalone software, ensuring flexibility for customers.
