Dyson decided to layoff personnel on 1 October

Layoffs have returned to the spotlight due to consumer electronics firm Dyson's unexpected decision to reduce personnel on 1 October. The union that the Singapore-based corporation entered into a collective bargaining agreement with conveyed its dissatisfaction over receiving only a single day's notice of the exercise. According to the United Workers of Electronics and Electrical Industries, this needs more time for in-depth conversation between the parties. Three months after laying off over a third of its British personnel in July of this year—around 1000 jobs—the consumer goods firm Dyson unexpectedly let go of an unspecified number of workers. The production and procurement divisions at its worldwide headquarters in Singapore are reportedly affected. Employee shock and bad morale were caused by Dyson's most recent wave of sudden layoffs. In light of past promises that Singapore would not be affected by earlier cuts, layoffs were not immediately anticipated. As per the report, personnel from the manufacturing and procurement departments have been laid off. The precise amount of employment losses is unknown at this time, though.

One of the workers stated that Dyson had previously carried out a wave of layoffs in Johor Bahru, which maintains a development centre. However, considering the company had previously declared it was increasing its investments in Singapore, Tuesday's layoffs were a surprise. The report quotes a Dyson spokeswoman: "We constantly evolve the composition of our teams and take steps to ensure we have the right skills in the right places. Our goals in Singapore are still the same, and we hope to keep expanding here in the medium run.

There have been layoffs in recent months besides those at Dyson

UBS Asia, HSBC, Barclays, Morgan Stanley, and General Motors also announced employee layoffs this year. During the downsizing, HR executives stepped up to provide laid-off workers with the most recent hiring and career resources. These leaders include Wan Xin, Head of Talent Acquisition, Singapore and Malaysia at Cushman & Wakefield, and Min-Liang Tan, Founder and CEO of Razer Inc. Several well-known businesses, like Dyson, have lately made employee layoffs in Singapore. Earlier this year, several companies reduced their personnel, including electronics manufacturer Epson, e-commerce store Shein, financial company MoneyHero, and logistics start-up Ninja Van. Samsung Electronics is also planning to lay off workers globally, including in Singapore, according to reports on 2 October.
