AI Alliance expands with Infosys, IIT Madras, and more

The  AI Alliance, established in 2023, has expanded its consortium to include seven prominent Indian organisations in a stride towards advancing AI innovation on the global stage. This coalition now boasts key players such as Infosys, AI4Bharat (IIT Madras), Sarvam AI, and Wadhwani AI, further solidifying India’s growing influence in the field of artificial intelligence. The AI Alliance, which includes industry titans like Meta and IBM, alongside institutions like NASA and CERN, is committed to promoting open, safe, and responsible AI practices worldwide.

India’s inclusion into this group is a testament to its rapid strides in AI innovation, particularly through the government’s IndiaAI mission, which aims to democratise access to AI resources and technology. The newly-inducted Indian members bring a diverse range of expertise, from AI research and technology to agriculture, reinforcing the importance of a cross-industry collaborative approach to AI development.

Shivnath Thukral, Vice President of Public Policy at Meta India, highlighted the critical role of international collaboration in pushing AI boundaries, stressing that India's contribution will significantly amplify the global effort to drive responsible AI. Amith Singhee, Director of IBM Research India, echoed this sentiment, noting how Indian organisations will now have access to global expertise and resources, enabling them to tackle the unique challenges and opportunities AI presents for India.

The AI Alliance seeks to leverage AI to its full potential while ensuring safety, diversity, and ethical considerations by fostering open innovation and creating platforms for knowledge exchange. The Alliance’s open-source model also aligns with India's digital transformation goals, providing a roadmap for future AI developments that benefit both national and global stakeholders.
