State owned telecom firm is following the footsteps of its peer, BSNL. The firm has announced an intent to offer a free roaming scheme which will allow its customers to not be charged for calls when they travel across the country.
The goal of the government is to achieve free roaming gradually, and this has been indicated by the ministry of telecom. MTNL has also announced that it has increased the minimum broadband scheme to 2 Mbps and is offering its landline customers free broadband for one month.
MTNL's effort is part of a plan to make its presence felt in the fast paced mobile era, and mirrors that of another state owned firm, BSNL. In May 2015, BSNL has announced that it will introduce unlimited free calling at night from its landline phones to all landline and mobile phones of all service providers across India. BSNL said that the scheme will cover all major landline plans of rural and urban areas
