The technological sector is still experiencing hard times. Reportedly, Microsoft layoffs a number of employees from its customer service, support, and sales team. As Microsoft announced in January of this year that it was cutting back on 10000 employees over upcoming months. Employees at Microsoft were urged to leave the company. Microsoft has now disclosed more job reductions but on a smaller scale. Microsoft is cutting close to 275 positions, as per a report by GeekWire.
According to the report, 276 positions have been pulled down by the company in the Washington region of the US. Back in January Microsoft layoffs ranged to 5% of its total headcount when Microsoft laid off 10000 of its employees.
The trend continued to transfer to all major companies including Amazon, Google, Meta, and others. The companies laid off thousands of their employees in terms of their own long-term sustainability. And the trend is likely to continue in the future too, as the economic downturn and other factors continue to put pressure on businesses. However,it is interesting to note that not all industries are being affected equally as these layoffs are mostly seen in digital industries and businesses. Whereas, the industries like healthcare , food and beverages are still hanging around soundly.
Some of the major companies like Meta, Twitter, Netflix, Oracle, Cisco and others made significant workforce reduction in a wake of rising inflation, sustainability, cost reduction, economic growth, and technological advancement as well. When on one hand these layoffs saved companies declination in the market, it affected a wide range of employees from entry level workers to executives. The impact of these layoffs varied depending on the individuals circumstances, but the harsh impact on the job market is evident.
Conclusion
This trend of layoffs which is speculated to continue in future as well is a concern for employees. If one is concerned about their job security then a few things should be taken care of, employees have to upskill themselves and have a strong resume which can increase their chances of employability along with that active networking is also a way to take a lead in this competition.
