Meta the parent company of Instagram is all set to launch a web version for Threads. It is a strategic move for Meta to revitalize user engagement. The platform is gearing up to introduce a web version for Threads which is a text-first social media platform.
Threads was initially launched on Android and iOS as an app on 15th July. The launch of the social platform experienced a surge in popularity however this initial excitement waned away. Hence, the introduction of a web version is seen as a bid to reclaim and sustain user interest. This move can potentially put Threads in competition with X (Former Twitter). The web version might come up as more versatile and appealing for users, especially to power users group that includes brands, company accounts, advertisers, and journalists.
Although Meta has not provided a specific date for the launch of the web version, Instagram head Adam Mosseri has hinted at its imminent release through a thread post in which he wrote, "We're working on it! We've been using an early version internally for a week or two. Still needs some work before we can open it up to everyone though…"
While the web version is much awaited, Thread has been actively introducing new features to enhance its user experience in the meantime. Users can now set post notifications for specific accounts and view them in chronological feed. Furthermore, an improved search function is in the pipeline which will allow users to search for specific posts rather than just user accounts.
Meta has been consistently working to enrich Threads by including features like direct sharing of posts on Instagram Direct Messages (DMs), custom alt-text for photos and videos, and a mention button for tagging user accounts. These constant enhancements underscore Meta's commitment to keeping Threads competitive and dynamic in the evolving landscape of social media platforms.
