ISRO is offering a free online course called Geospatial Applications for Forest Ecosystem Analysis for students and scientific researchers
ISRO is currently accepting applications from students and scientific staff for a free online course called “Geospatial Applications for Forest Ecosystem Analysis”. The course is being offered by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, which is a centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation. IIRS says that the course is aimed at offering an understanding of the technology as geospatial technology is an effective tool for assessment, monitoring and management of forest ecosystem. Participants will be given certificates upon successful completion of the course.
Who Can Take the ISRO Free Online Course?
The course would be most suitable for the following participants:
- The candidates who want to participate in should be a postgraduate or final year postgraduate student of environmental science or life science.
- Scientific staff of central, state government, faculty or researchers at university or institutions are also eligible to apply for this course.
What the ISRO Free Online Course Will Cover?
The course brings both theoretical as well as use cases on how geospatial technology can be effectively applied to better understand and manage the forest ecosystems. The following topics will be covered as part of the course:
- Overview on application of geospatial technology in forest ecosystem studies.
- Geospatial application for forest biomass assessment.
- Geospatial application for forest productivity assessment.
- Geospatial application for biodiversity study for conservation planning.
- Forest monitoring using publicly available EO data and cloud resources.
The course should be able to enable the participants to self explore and apply methodology on use of geospatial technology for monitoring and assessment of various forest ecosystems.
