ISRO has invited applications from students and professionals for a free online course on remote sensing techniques for geological studies
ISRO is currently offering a free online course called Hyperspectral and Microwave Remote Sensing Techniques for Geological Studies for students and professionals. The course is being offered through the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), which is centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) entrusted with the responsibility of developing trained professionals in the field of remote sensing, geoinformatics and GNSS technology for natural resources, environmental and disaster management.
The course will be conducted from 7 to 17 March 2022, and aims at addressing geological problems with techniques of hyperspectral and microwave remote sensing. Participants will be given adequate knowledge of fundamental concepts and will go on to learn image processing in both hyperspectral and microwave regions of the spectrum. Working professionals and students will also be given an ISRO certificate based on 70 percent attendance.
What the ISRO Free Online Course Will Cover?
The following are the topics that will be covered over a period of 7 days in the course on remote sensing:
- Principles of hyperspectral and microwave remote sensing, data analysis and applications.
- Hyperspectral processing techniques: Data reduction, end members selection, mapping methods; SAR Data Processing : INSAR, DInSAR , PolSAR.
- Spectroscopy of major rocks and mineral (terrestrial and planetary)
- DInSAR for land surface deformation studies: Earthquake, landslide, land subsidence and glacier dynamics studies.
Who Can Apply for ISRO Free Online Course?
The Course is open to the following participants:
- Postgraduate or final year postgraduate student of geosciences.
- Scientific staff of central or state government, faculty or researchers at university or institutions.
- Users receiving programmes under CEC-UGC or CIET networks can also participate.
How to Apply for ISRO Free Online Course?
Applicants will have to to register online through registration page by selecting their organisation as the nodal center. In order to register an organisation as a nodal centre, the interested organisations, universities, departments or institutes have to identify a coordinator at their end. The identified coordinator will register online their institute as the nodal center on the IIRS website. Those who wish to apply are advised to go through the official brochure for more details.
