The Union Cabinet has given its approval to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and the Ministry of Education of the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The primary objective of this MoU is to reinforce the ongoing educational collaboration between India and the UAE and ultimately expand the range of their partnerships.

Previously, an earlier MoU was signed with the UAE in the field of education back in 2015 which had expired in 2018. In 2019,  the UAE proposed signing a new MoU during a meeting between the Education Ministers of both countries that would incorporate the changes introduced by India’s National Education Policy of 2020.

The MoU is aimed to promote the exchange of educational information, enhance the capacity development of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) teaching staff, facilitate academic collaboration between higher education institutions in both nations, allowing for joint degree, dual degree programs, and other areas of mutual agreement.

It is expected to strengthen educational cooperation and boost academic mobility between India and the UAE while facilitating the exchange of information to encourage the mutual recognition of qualifications. It includes a collaboration with TVET, given that the UAE is a major destination for Indian workers.

  • Frameworks and policies related to the development of talented individuals, skill enhancement, counseling, and well-being.
  • The facilitation of academic collaboration between Higher Education Institutions in both countries.

This MoU will remain in effect for five years from the date of aligning and can be renewed automatically with the consent of both parties. After it gets executed this MoU will supersede the earlier agreement signed in 2015, rendering the previous agreement null and void.
