Today, building a high quality Information Technology (IT) organization is key challenge of the corporate leaders and policy makers, where the role of Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) becomes crucial. In an IT industry, a CIO /CTO, normally, performs five basic roles namely Business Strategist, IT Strategist, Change Agent, IT Functional Leader and Technology Ambassador and holds key responsibilities for bringing business transformation by leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Business Process Engineering (BPE).
CIO /CTO Competencies Policy framework of the US Government (2012 Clinger -Cohen Core Competencies & Learning Objectives) today has become minimum agenda of CIO /CTO competencies being referred in various CIO education programs being offered by Global institutes like Carnegie mellon University, Maryland University and many other global institutes.
It reflects on 12 core competencies namely Policy and Organization; Leadership and Human Capital Management; Process and Change Management; Information Resources Strategy and Planning; IT Performance Assessment: Models and Methods; IT Project and Program Management; Capital Planning and Investment Control; Acquisition; Information and Knowledge Management; Cyber-security/Information Assurance; Enterprise Architecture; and Technology Management and Assessment. Considering IT investment and business focus of transformation and support from ICT, information on these competencies for the CIOs and their delegates will enhance to perform their role effectively
