The portal provides access to previous years’ questions (PYQs) from the year 2007 to 2022, spanning more than 16 years of GATE exam topics. The platform has witnessed a significant surge in student participation over the past year, emphasizing its role in providing effective exam preparation programs.

The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), was launched in August 2022. It is a joint initiative of various IITs, including IIT Madras and IISc Bengaluru, sponsored by Amadeus Labs Bengaluru.

GATE is a national-level exam that evaluates candidates’ comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate-level subjects in Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, and Humanities. After qualifying in GATE, the examination will open doors to Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs with possible financial assistance.

Prof. Andrew Thangaraj, Coordinator, NPTEL-IIT Madras, highlighted the impact of the NPTEL-GATE Portal, and stated, "The high participation in mock tests and live sessions demonstrates students' commitment to effective GATE exam preparation using the portal's extensive resources. The NPTEL-GATE portal offers numerous benefits to GATE aspirants, all accessible for free, democratizing access to high-quality educational content."

Initially, students preparing for GATE used to invest substantial time and resources and often opted for coaching from private institutions. The NPTEL-GATE portal aims to reduce this burden by providing resources for free.  Students have completed 115 mock tests across key subjects and the current semester has already seen 19 mock tests completed from August 2022 to February 2023.

Students have well-received live preparation sessions along with interactive lessons that cover crucial GATE topics in fields such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Physics, Chemistry, and Biotechnology.
