IIT Madras has announced a new inter-disciplinary dual degree program on Complex Systems and Dynamics available to all students doing their BTech in the Indian Institute of Madras. Through the program, IIT Madras will introduce students to new techniques and tools for mathematical modelling and analysis of complex dynamical systems and to investigate some of the challenging dynamical problems in climate science, neuroscience, biological systems, multiphysics systems and active flows.
The dual degree project will be one year long and the topic will depend on the choice of the guide. Some of the possible project topics that students may receive are as follows: climate science, computational neuroscience, machine learning in fluid dynamics, biomimetic flows, complex flows and physics of living matter, urban climate modeling, stochastic dynamics of spatio-temporal systems, and dynamics of social behaviour.
Course Curriculum of the IIT Madras New Inter-Disciplinary Dual Degree Program
The official website says that the course curriculum consists of three compulsory core courses namely:
- One from complex networks basket that introduces students to complex networks analysis,
- One from nonlinear dynamics basket that exposes students on this subject,
- One from a select set of mathematics and numerical techniques courses.
Students can select a combination of 5 courses of 9 credits each or a combination of 4 courses of higher credits such that total credit requirement of 45 credits is satisfied, says the website. Those who wish to know more about the newly introduced inter-disciplinary dual degree program on complex systems and dynamics can visit the official website for more information.
