Currently in India, everyone is waiting for the commercial launch of the Jio GigaFiber. Enterprises, small medium businesses, students and professionals, Reliance Jio owned Jio GigaFiber has something for everybody. Especially after the acquisitions in Hathway Cable and Datacom and Den Networks, Reliance Jio is expected to get an edge in the rollout of the Jio GigaFiber broadband services.

However, after the acquisition, one question that existing Hathway and Den users seem to be asking is how they can upgrade to Jio GigaFiber. “I am an existing Hathway broadband customer in New Delhi. So does this mean I will automatically be upgraded to JioGigaFiber when your services commence?” tweeted a Hathway customer Siddhant Singh.

The answer to this question is that even existing Hathway users have to invite Jio GigaFiber to their area, and they will get the connection at a reduced price. Those who wish to avail Jio GigaFiber connection have to deposit a refundable amount of Rs 4500, but all existing Den and Hathway will get a quick and affordable upgrade to the Jio GigaFiber network, says a report on TimesNowNews.

Jio GigaFiber, which promises to give a connected home at an average speed of 100MBPS, has apparently reached the stage of beta testing, which means that employees of the company are testing it out. Although there is no clarity on when the service will be completely rolled out, reports suggest that the Jio GigaFiber should be available ‘really soon’ but probably not as early as Diwali, which was what was being expected initially.

Also, even though the acquisition of Hathway and Den Networks has given Reliance Jio direct access to 24 million subscribers across 750 cities, the rollout may face another hurdle in terms of legacy infrastructure, meaning existing Hathway and Den networks could be using age old technology in certain areas. Therefore, Reliance may need to invest further into laying out new cables to replace the older ones laid out by Den and Hathway for they could be limited to lower broadband speeds.

Regardless of the delay in launch, Indians still await the services with bated breath as Reliance Jio promises to give consumers Jio GigaTV or Jio DTH set-top box along with the FTTH services that offers Ultra HD entertainment, multi-party video conferencing, virtual reality gaming, shopping and smart home solutions.
