Google Chrome, the popular web browser is unveiling three experimental generative AI features in its latest release (M121). These features aim to further elevate the browsing experience for users on Macs and Windows PCs. These features were announced by Parisa Tabriz, Vice President of Chrome, emphasizing the integration of AI to enhance browsing efficiency and personalization.
These three innovative GenAI features include
Tab Organizer
Chrome has introduced an intelligent Tab Organizer to simplify the management of multiple open tabs. This feature automates the creation of tab groups based on the user’s open tabs. With this particular feature, Chrome offers convenience especially while working on various tasks simultaneously. Users will be able to access this feature by right-clicking on a tab and selecting “Organize Similar tabs” or using the drop-down arrow beside the tabs. Chrome will also suggest names and emojis for these groups, streamlining the tab navigation process.
Create Custom Themes with AI
Chrome now enables users to personalize their browsers further, building on last year’s introduction of generative AI wallpapers. Users can quickly generate custom themes based on chosen subjects, moods, visual styles, and colors. In terms of accessing this feature, no expertise in AI prompts is required as users can
- Visit the “Customize Chrome” side panel
- Click “Change theme”
- And select “Create with AI”
The AI suggests themes based on user preferences making theme personalization seamless and accessible.
AI-Powered Writing Assistance
Chrome has introduced an experimental AI-powered feature to boost users’ confidence, recognizing the challenges of writing on the web, especially in public spaces or forums. The feature is set to launch in the next month’s Chrome release and assist users in drafting well-articulated content.
Users can activate this feature by right-clicking on a text box or field and selecting “Help me write”. The AI generates suggested text, initiating the writing process.
Who can access these features?
Users in the U.S. can access these experimental features by
- Signing into Chrome
- Navigating to the “Settings” from the three-dot menu
- Selecting the “Experimental AI" page
However, these features will be disabled for enterprise and educational accounts initially.
Conclusion
These innovative AI features align with Chrome’s ambition to integrate machine learning and AI technologies by making browsing more accessible, secure, and enjoyable for users.
Additionally, the Chrome team plans to introduce more AI and ML capabilities throughout the year including the integration of the new AI model, Gemini to enhance browsing speed and ease.
