OpenAI has announced that its famous artificial intelligence chatbot developed ChatGPT is now available for developers on application programming interface (API). Developers will now be able to integrate ChatGPT and Whisper models into their apps and products through OpenAI’s API. Apart from ChatGPT, the company has also made available for developers its Whisper models, which is a speech-to-text platform that accepts a variety of formats such as m4a, mp3, mp4, mpeg, mpga, wav, and webm.
“We believe that AI can provide incredible opportunities and economic empowerment to everyone, and the best way to achieve that is to allow everyone to build with it. We hope that the changes we announced today will lead to numerous applications that everyone can benefit from. Start building next-generation apps powered by ChatGPT & Whisper,” says OpenAI on encouraging developers to build through its innovations.

OpenAI has also stated that the model that is being released for developers today is the same model used in the ChatGPT product, which is the GPT 3.5 Turbo. It has been priced at $0.002 per 1k tokens, which OpenAI claims is ten times less expense when compared to existing GPT-3.5 models.
Famous Companies Using ChatGPT API
A number of companies have already tied up with OpenAI for the ChatGPT API, and have developed their products on it. For instance:
Snapchat: Snap, the creator of the popular multimedia instant messaging app and service SnapChat, has built its newly announced My AI for Snapchat+ on ChatGPT API. My AI, which is currently an experimental feature, can be used for recommendations or to write short poems called Haiku.
Quizlet: This is basically a global learning platform and a multi-national American company that provides tools for studying and learning. Quizlet is soon coming up with an artificial intelligence tutor Q-Chat that has been built on ChatGPT API. Q-Chat basically interacts with students through adaptive questions based on relevant study materials delivered through a fun chat experience.
Instacart: The popular American retail company that operates a grocery delivery and pick-up service in the United States and Canada is using OpenAI’s platform lo launch “Ask Instacart” later this year. This offering aims at helping customers discover ideas for open-ended shopping goals, such as “How do I make great fish tacos?” or “What’s a healthy lunch for my kids?”.
Shopify: Canadian multinational e-commerce company headquartered in Ottawa, Shop, the creator of Shopify is also joining the AI bandwagon with this API. ChatGPT API will now be used to operate Shop’s new shopping assistant, which is capable of making personalised recommendations to shoppers.
