Hon'ble Minister for Large and Medium Industries of Karnataka, M.B. Patil, conducted a series of strategic discussions with global leaders in the semiconductor industry during his visit to the United States.
The meetings, aimed at advancing Karnataka’s semiconductor ecosystem, involved high-level engagements with Eugenus Technology, Lam Research, Alphawave Semi, and MIPS Technologies, four of the most prominent players in the sector.
In his meeting with JW Kim, CEO of Eugenus, Patil explored the vast potential within Karnataka’s growing semiconductor value chain. Eugenus Technology, a global leader in providing advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment, specializes in high-precision deposition, etching, and cleaning systems that enable the production of cutting-edge semiconductor devices.
The discussion centered around leveraging Eugenus' expertise to tap into Karnataka’s burgeoning semiconductor industry. M.B. Patil also extended a formal invitation to Eugenus to participate in the upcoming Invest Karnataka 2025 event, where they could further explore investment opportunities in the state.
M.B. Patil also met with Dr. Pat Lord, COO and Executive VP of Lam Research, along with other senior executives of the company. The discussion focused on the recent advancements in India’s semiconductor ecosystem and how Karnataka is positioning itself as a critical player in the global semiconductor value chain.
Lam Research, a global supplier of wafer fabrication equipment, recently broke ground on its systems lab in Bengaluru, marking a significant milestone in their India operations. The Hon'ble Minister highlighted potential opportunities for further collaboration and innovation in Karnataka's rapidly expanding semiconductor sector.
In his engagement with Tony Pialis, CEO of Alphawave Semi, M.B. Patil discussed the numerous collaborative avenues to enhance innovation and build a robust semiconductor ecosystem in Karnataka.
Alphawave Semi, a leader in connectivity solutions for data infrastructure, expressed keen interest in contributing to the future growth of Karnataka’s semiconductor landscape. The discussions underscored the importance of fostering cutting-edge technological advancements and making Karnataka future-ready for the global semiconductor industry.
Additionally, M.B. Patil met with Sameer Wasson, CEO of MIPS Technologies in Palo Alto. MIPS Technologies, an American fabless semiconductor design company, is renowned for developing the MIPS architecture and a series of RISC CPU chips based on it.
The discussion focused on creating an enabling ecosystem for semiconductor design and innovation in Karnataka, furthering the state’s ambitions to become a hub for semiconductor development.
M.B. Patil also addressed key American companies at a roundtable hosted by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), where Srikar Reddy, Consul General of India in San Francisco, was also present. The group deliberated on multi-faceted collaborations between the USA and Karnataka, discussing potential growth opportunities and strengthening ties between both regions.
These high-level discussions reaffirm Karnataka’s commitment to becoming a global hub for the semiconductor industry, attracting significant investment, and fostering innovation in the sector. The state’s proactive initiatives and world-class infrastructure continue to position it as a top destination for semiconductor companies worldwide.
