Blinkit has been in the eye of a storm on Twitter for an unpleasant episode that a customer had to go through. Blinkit delivered a live rat in bread to a customer Nitin Arora, reportedly on 1 February 2023. The aghast customer took to Twitter to share this absurd experience. “Most unpleasant experience with Blinkit, where alive rat was delivered inside the bread packet ordered on 1.2.23. This is alarming for all of us. If 10 minutes delivery has such baggage, I would rather wait for a few hours than take such items,” tweeted the customer Nitin Arora while using the hashtags for Blinkit and Zomato.
He also shared an image of the live rate inside the bread packet, along with a screenshot of the chat that he had with customer care executives. After this tweet went viral, other customers started to share similar experiences they had with the grocery delivery app. “Same issue with me I received the rotten goods from Blinkit and not getting any support from Customer service then I decided to visit there store where they dispatch the orders no wonder if rat was found in a packet the store was totally messed and full of insects and garbage,” claims another customer Arjun on the thread.
Swati Jain, on the same thread, says: “Blinkit now a days is becoming useless. Sometimes they deliver stale vegetables, sometimes damaged items, and when they replace the veggies, they are typically same type! And the delivery boys mark items delivered even before they have arrived.”
Another supposed customer Deshraj Singh claims that he was delivered rotten eggs. “That's the truth about the delivery, even I faced a similar scenario where rotten eggs were delivered to me and they were smelling so bad but the delivery guy didn't notice any. However I didnot get the entire amount refunded as they said that delivery charge is customers fault,” adds Singh.
On a similar note, an account by the name PK India states that the issue arises when a bulk order is made. “One of the other problem as a consumer I have faced is when a bulk shopping is done especially biscuits which are delivered are in bad bad condition, almost every biscuit is broken into pieces. Delivery guys are also least interested in taking care the products while delivering,” he says.
How Blinkit Has Responded to the Rat Delivery Issue
After the Twitter thread caught considerable attention with over 200 replies, and other customers started to share similar experiences. Dhananjay Shashidharan, head of customer delight, Blinkit acknowledged the issue and stated that the store had been delisted. “I head Customer Support here at Blinkit. I want to assure you, we've taken swift action already and de-listed the partner store, even as we are investigating the matter with the store owner. We have high standards for hygiene at all our stores, and with this incident, we have increased the frequency of audits at the store networks,” said Shashidharan.
