BharatPe CEO Suhail Sameer has been forced to issue an apology after he faced flak across various social media platforms for his comments to Ashneer Grover’s sister over non-payment of salaries to the company’s employees. The issue began after an employee of BharatPe took to LinkedIn to highlight the issue of non-payment of salaries. “Dear Suhail and Shashvat Sir, we haven’t received our salary for March month yet despite following so many times on email and visiting the office. All the old admin staff of BharatPe has been terminated by you without giving any reason and their salaries have not been paid. We were with BharatPe ever since the Company started and now we are nowhere because of your internal politics. We are poor people and have our houses to run, small kids to take care of,” said Karan Sarki, senior associate IT, BharatPe.

Ashneer Grover and Ashima Grover were quick to respond to the post. While Ashneer Grover requested the management to quickly take not of the issue, Ashima Grover responded to a comment saying “That’s the sad part. It’s a shameless bunch. Suhail Sameer responded to this comment saying “Your brother has stolen all the money. Very little left to pay salaries.”

As Suhail Sameer’s comment received wide outrage, he later responded to the issue saying: “Friends - I apologise to have irked many of you. In hindsight, it was out of line. We are already working on past employees full and final being paid out. My comment was a reaction to a particular statement, not the post. But I accept the mistake. I request you to also have patience, and refrain from building a story based on false narrative.”

The CEO has also been telling the employees in question to call him in case they don’t receive their settlements by 8 April 2022. BharatPe was co-founded by Ashneer Grover and Sashvat Nakrani in 2018 with its headquarters in New Delhi. In January 2022, there was a sudden announcement of Grover taking a voluntary leave from office until March amid his controversial behaviour in his interaction with a Kotak bank employee. Subsequently the Bharat Pe board also called for an independent audit of the company's processes including the tenure of Grover and his wife Madhuri in the management. Following this management consultant and risk advisory firm Alvarez and Marsal indicated financial irregularities like payments of 53.25 crores to non existent entities incurring a loss of 10.97 crores. Post that, Grover’s wife Madhuri Jain was sacked from her position as Head of Controls at Bharat Pe over allegations of financial irregularities. On 1 March 2022, Ashneer Grover resigned from his position of the managing director of the company.
