Automation has become a threat for job seekers. According to reports, Infosys released 8,000-9,000 employees in the past one year due to automation of lower-end jobs.It has become a great concern for people working in the industry. The total employee strength of the company has come down drastically which is a rare occurrence for one of the biggest IT services in the country.
According to the company's human resources head Krishnamurthy Shankar, 2000 people are being released every quarter. The company is training people in special courses so that they can use these new skills in their new assignment.
However, automation is one of the key factors for the reduction of employees in the company but it is not the only reason for the release of employees. The other reason could be the company's financial status.
Many big IT services companies have started investing in automation of processes in their traditional businesses like infrastructure management, application management, etc to cut down the cost.
From a business point of view, automation can be a boon for the company as it reduces the cost, time and energy. But at the same time there would be a great threat to employment in the world as a whole. Although automation cannot fully replace the human staff but can kill the job opportunities to an extent.
