Amazon India has experienced the biggest ever festive season since launch in the country over three years back. With the three waves of the Great Indian Festival spanning the month of October, Amazon India has become the most visited shopping destination this festive season with customers from 97% of India’s serviceable pin codes placing at least one order using PCs or mobile phones

Great Indian Festival (October) 2016 Highlights
Most visited destination: During the festive season, Amazon.in was the most visited online shopping destination on desktop and m-site. Amazon said they were also the most downloaded app during festive season, which reflects in the ranking on both Google Playstore and iOS as the Number 1 Shopping App. Industry recognized 3rd party tools like SimilarWeb and App Annie corroborate these trends.
Increased penetration: Amazon.in continued to see momentum from smaller cities and towns with over 65% orders and more that 75% of new customers coming from Tier II and below geographies. Customers from 97% of India’s serviceable pin codes made purchases on Amazon.in in October.
“This festive season, customers across India were able to shop on Amazon.in with ease and convenience for over 85 million products - the largest online selection of products - ranging from smartphones, laptops, musical instruments, stationery products, furniture, large appliances, gold jewellery, designer wear, books, baby products, toys, clothing & accessories, shoes to beauty products, pet products, home decor, gourmet foods, grocery, gardening accessories as well as hard-to-find international selection all at one place.
Amazon.in saw the broadest cross category purchases in this season. More than 40% customer shopped with Amazon.in multiple times during the festive season, across multiple categories. Two of every five customers who bought Electronics and Mobile phones also bought in multiple other categories like kitchen, apparel, shoes and daily essentials
While traditional favorite categories like smartphones (2.9X), large appliances (11.4X), and overall fashion (3.1 X) continued to generate great customer traction, newer categories showed unprecedented growth. Some of the big growth drivers were household consumables (7.1X), grocery (4.3X), furniture (11.8X), luxury beauty (46X), and gold jewelry (8.2 X).

Project Udaan
Units sold through Amazon’s Udaan points grew 7X over last month
Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Gold 32 GB, Patanjali Detergent Powder and Lenovo Vibe K4 Note were the top selling products through Udaan.
Customers made several unique purchases at the Udaan points. These included a Nebulizer kit in Sattupalli in Telangana, an Apple watch in Rewari, Haryana, a set of 4 Michelin tubeless car tyres in Narasaraopet, Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, agricultural sprinklers in Bharuch, Gujarat
- Grocery was one of the largest selling categories (14% share of units). Udaan store owners were pleasantly surprised to see customers coming in with weekly grocery shopping lists and purchasing them at the Udaan points
- Over 1000 watches were bought across Udaan stores, across a wide price band including premium brands and high ASP ones like Citizen Eco
I Have Space stores
Amazon’s large network of IHS stores (12500 across 50 cities), delivered 5X more packages in comparison to Diwali last year.
