ISRO Extends Online Application Date for UNNATI Programme for Engineers and Science Students

ISRO has extended the online application date for its UNNATI (UNispace Nanosatellite Assembly & Training by ISRO) programme. UNNATI is one of the is one of the UNISPACE+50 initiatives by the Indian Space Research Organisation to help foreign countries strengthen their capabilities in assembling, integrating and testing nano-satellites. The online application date has been extended from 15 July 2019 to 29 July 2019.

The ISRO UNNATI programme aims at capacity building in satellite technology for interested countries by providing a hands-on training in building and testing of nano-satellites. The programme includes theoretical course on satellite technology, intensive course on nano-satellite realisation, covering mission aspects, design, fabrication, assembly, integration and testing as well as a hands-on training to assemble, integrate and test a low cost, modular nano satellite, says the URSC website.

The duration of the course will be of eight weeks and a total of 30 participants will be selected from various countries. The batch of 30 participants will be organized into 3 groups of 10 members each. Each group will work on assembly, integration and testing of a nano-satellite. The course structure has been segregated into 3 modules, of which the first two modules will be of two weeks each, and the third module will be conducted for 4 weeks.

Candidates will be finalized by 15 August 2019, and the course will commence from 15 October 2019 and end on 15 December 2019. Can Indians Apply for ISRO UNNATI Programme?

Indians are not eligible to apply for this programme; however, there are various other programmes that the Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (CSSTEAP), which is affiliated to the United Nations, conducts for Indian students.

CSSTEAP conducts various short courses on different themes of Remote Sensing and GIS, Small Satellite Missions and Navigation and Satellite Positioning System based on request of user departments at centers of ISRO namely Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Space Applications Centre (SAC), U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) and also in Physical Research Laboratory (PRL). Currently, students can apply for a programme, which will be conducted at PRL, and the details for the same have already been published in this story.
